    Beautiful color!

Your post reminded me of one of my favorite books, The Bean Trees, by Barbara Kingsolver. The “beans” in her book weren’t mesquite, but certainly could have been. Great image!

  3. Delightful photo, Donna! While the mesquite beans are probably red due to lack of water, they are reminiscent of the chile ristras seen around New Mexico in the fall.

Boil them down to make a sweet syrup, or just snack on the pith around the seeds. They have lost of uses besides just being beautiful.
