In Memoriam: Soles – Part 1

This is my new series of photographs memorializing roadkill by their feet.  And some weren’t roadkill, just dead.  The first photo planted the seed.  The only porcupine I’ve ever seen was dead at the side of the road.  It had … Continue reading

A Real Roadrunner?

This makes me laugh – it looks like a museum diorama to me.  The bird looks stuffed and the background looks painted!  But it’s SOOC (straight out of the camera), except for adding my name to it. Truth or Consequences, … Continue reading

Another Roadrunner

The hunter stopped his quest to give me the eye.  And then he bounded away.  You can see its feet well in this shot – two toes forward, two back – make a X-shaped track. Cochiti Lake, New Mexico, USA.

Camp Visitor

This roadrunner was very comfortable at my campsite in the Tetilla campgrounds.  It walked across the table and then perched on the old grill.  It must know they are not used these days. Tetilla National Recreation Area, New Mexico, USA.

Today there were two roadrunners in the yard.  I had a chance to get several shots.  Here it’s looking for a snack. And here’s the basic ear-scratch.  You can see its toes here – two facing forward and two facing … Continue reading

Roadrunner 2014

Amazing that I can identify the roadrunner by the year – I haven’t seen one in my yard since March 2013.  So I was delighted when this rather frantic one came hunting doves near the feeder.  Raced after several, but … Continue reading

Roadrunner in Juniper

Enjoying a morning cup of tea, I was surprised to hear a loud raspy bird noise.  I looked several times before the sun finally reached and revealed a roadrunner in the juniper just above my porch eaves.   Roadrunners are … Continue reading
