State Flag

It’s said that a plastic bag caught in cactus is the New Mexico state flag.  Protocol prefers it to be cholla, but ocotillo is acceptable.  Even prickly pear.  You are not required to stand.

Prolific Cactus

Mammillaria Cactus

I’m worse at identifying cactus than I am identifying birds, but here goes.  I think this is Mammillaria albilanata.  Maybe. And here’s a side view.  You can see old blossoms.
