Once was an Elk

I think. It could have been a horse. It had a fatal encounter with a vehicle. Iconic western sight.

    The arch of its neck–so graceful in repose, yet also marking the impact, the moment of its fall.

    Leaning towards elk, since horses have upper teeth, while elk as ruminants do not.
