Excellent photo. The water is still low. Do you remember when water went of the spillway for the first time in the late 1980s? It was very exciting to see. We were able to drive over the dam and walk on it back then.
They have been letting water out for irrigation, but soon will stop. I wasn’t here to see water go over the spillway, but folks talk about it often. It would take an amazing amount of water to fill the lake again. Cool that you got to see it.
The ’80s were abnormally wet years. All the lakes were full and flooding by the end of the decade. If we have normal rains and run off for the next 20 years, that might be enough to half fill Elephant Butte.

How did you get the whole photo in black and white but the canopy in light blue?
It’s one of the Prisma choices on the iPhone. I have no idea how it chooses what to keep in color!
