It took me 60+ years to see my first muskrat too. Thought it was a beaver until I saw the tail.

Cute aren’t they? I haven’t seen muskrats yet this year, but I see them most days in the clearwater ditch in the summertime.

    • Yes, I was thrilled to see it. This was in an old fish hatchery pond.

An old fish hatchery is a perfect place for muskrats. I walked a bout a mile of the clearwater ditch bank this morning. Not a muskrat in sight. I saw several bullfrogs basking in the sunshine.

      • A friend said she heard a bullfrog there recently. I haven’t seen or heard one. Walking with a dog is not always conducive to wildlife viewing.

I used to see them a lot in Virginia. Had to dodge muskrat holes in a waterfront park where I ran in Norfolk. I’ve never seen one here. Great picture.
