Plank Road

From 1915 to 1926 the best road through the Algodones Dunes between Yuma and San Diego was a plank road.  This is what is left of it – preserved now as best they can.
Imperial county, California, USA.

Looks like you’re having a nice time out.

  2. I have a picture of that road, too. It was one of the things I’d always wanted to see. If you are still in that general area, check out Wiley’s Well campground. It’s a dry camp, long term BLM camping area with really reasonable rates and a handful of friendly people along a beautiful wash.
Lot’s of good stuff to see nearby.

    • I was just making a quick trip to see family in San Diego – and this had always been on my list to stop and see. It’s not far off of I-8. Not camping this time, but sure saw many places I would like to have the RV.
