Or remains of a millipede.  They are quite fragile – it was rare to find a whole one (well, missing a few dozen legs).

    Great find! I saw one of these at Kilbourne hole. Didn’t realize what it was until I picked it up. It immediately broke into pieces. I wish I had taken a photo first like you did.
