    So what would the windmill be for? Pumping water from a well? Us city folks don’t know about these things.

  3. Windmills were always for pumping water before there was electricity. At least windmills like that. There are some enormous ones that were for grinding grain but by far the majority were for water. And Donna is probably right about the horses. Kids either walked from surrounding ranches or rode their horses. There were probably trees to provide shade for the horses, too…trees that are long gone by now.

    Those windmills are still a very common sight in the very dry areas in Outback Australia in order to access water. Great pic… thanks.
