It is probably a cholla of some kind. You’re right…those are awfully long spines. Chollas fascinate me because they often look like they are glowing. Those spines catch the light in a certain way that just intrigues me.
I don’t usually think of cacti as beautiful but this picture made me change my mind, it’s lovely. Wouldn’t want to touch it, though :).
