Not found in guidebooks, my favorite place for breakfast was with Aunt Barb at Clocker’s Corner at the Santa Anita Racetrack.
Year-round they serve a selection of tasty breakfasts to folks watching the horses work out: owners, jockeys, handicappers, reporters, and people like us who just like to be around horses.
We sat at tables close to and just above the track. It’s a busy colorful place. Some horses were sprinting, trainers with stop-watches timing them. Some were just warming up; some cooling down. Some in racing saddles, some in blankets; and the accompanying horses in their western tack.
On the way out we would walk through the barns to see the Budweiser Clydesdales.
I don’t remember what I ate, but it’s the finest place for breakfast.
