Over the years I’ve collected a few things to adorn the car that always travel with me. First it was the St. Christopher medal that had been in my aunt’s car. And then my mother’s monogram pin.
Then when I was looking for a new place to live, I found myself looking forward to getting over the next hill or mountain. And the childhood song came into my mind – “the bear went over the mountain to see what he could see.” I decided I needed a bear fetish to help me find my place. In Santa Fe I found the perfect Zuni bear made by Arnie Calavaza. The bear stands on the dash and looks for the next horizon with me.
And finally I added Reba’s collar around the base of the bear. This little corgi/heeler dog travelled many miles with me.
It feels as if I never travel alone.

The open road….nice picture…
You sparked a memory for me – my dad used to sing the bear song to me when I was a young one.
This photo reminds me of the many roads that I have walked and hitchhiked on in the United States.
