Cold Roadrunner

cold roadrunner2

It’s about 20º this morning and the roadrunner wants to warm up a bit.  It fluffs out its feathers and spreads its wings a little to expose the dark feathers underneath.  Turning its back to the sun, it warms itself.

This was shot through the living room window and obviously not  the best location, but I don’t control where the bird is.  I could improve the shot by keeping my windows cleaner!

This is a photo I took a year ago.  It’s the backside of a roadrunner.  It’s not easy to figure out what you are seeing, but you can see the dark feathers underneath.  Again, the branches in front and behind it don’t help.

  1. Love it head in the top one…and that eye in the second

Thanks for the roadrunner pics. When I was in NM for 3 days in early December I was disappointed to only see one. I was hoping to get a good portrait but it was not to be. Maybe next time.

  3. Cool shots, I didn’t know that about the Roadrunner when he is cold. I saw one at the Botantical Gardens a week ago when the temps were still nice. The temps have been too cold for man or beast.

I love seeing this guy, as we don’t ever get to see him in our area. It has been cooler here down in South Texas, but I’m not going to complain :)

I have a different theory: he’s stuffed full of birdseed, courtesy of Wile E. Coyote.

    Great pictures!

  6. That top shot is absolutely gorgeous. Great color and texture.

  7. This is a great photo! I like the way the branches arch above the Roadrunner and the contrasting color of the fence. The cactus provides a perfect backdrop. I think only you can see “dirty” windows.
